Knitted mittens with lace pattern



Size: S - M/L
Materials: 100-100 g colour no 51, powder pink

DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 7 mm (size S) or SIZE 8 mm (size M/L) - or size needed to get 12 sts x 16 rows in stocking st (size S) or 11 sts x 15 rows in stocking st (size M/L) = 10 x 10 cm.
DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 6 mm (size S) or SIZE 7 mm (size M/L) for rib.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1.

INCREASE TIP:
Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. On next round K YO twisted (i.e work in back loop of YO instead of front) to avoid holes.

DECREASE TIP:
Beg dec 1 st before marker in each side: Slip 1 st on cable needle behind piece, slip 1 st, slip st from cable needle back on left needle, K 2 tog, psso = 2 sts dec. Dec 1 time in each side = 4 sts dec on every round.

LEFT MITTEN:
Size S is worked on double pointed needles size 6 and 7 mm.
Size M/L is worked on double pointed needles size 7 and 8 mm.
Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 28 sts on double pointed needles size 6-7 mm with Eskimo. Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 6 cm. Switch to double pointed needles size 7-8 mm, K 1 round while at the same time dec 2 sts evenly = 26 sts. Then work as follows: 15 sts in stocking st, A.1, 2 sts in stocking st. Continue the pattern like this. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Insert a marker in the 10th st. When piece measures 14 cm, inc 1 st on each side of st with marker for thumb gusset - Read INCREASE TIP. Repeat inc on each side of the inc sts on next round = 5 sts in thumb gusset. Work 2-3 rounds without inc. Then slip the 5 thumb sts on a stitch holder. Cast on 1 new st behind sts on stitch holder = 26 sts. Insert 2 markers in the piece; one in the 1st st and one in the 13th st (= in each side). Continue with stocking st and A.1. When piece measures 24-26 cm, dec on each side of sts with markers - Read DECREASE TIP. Repeat dec every round a total of 5 times = 6 sts remain. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog.

THUMB:
Slip the 5 thumb sts back on double pointed needles size 7-8 mm. Knit up 5 sts behind the thumb = 10 sts. Continue in stocking st in the round until thumb measures 5-6 cm. Insert 2 markers in the thumb; one in the 1st st and one in the 6th st (= in each side). On next round, dec on each side of st with marker - Read DECREASE TIP. Repeat dec on next round = 2 sts remain. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog.

RIGHT MITTEN:
Cast on and work as left mitten but insert marker for thumb gusset in the 4th st.
