felted slippers for Christmas Size 21 to 48.



Size: 21/23-24/27-28/31-32/34 (35/37-38/40-42/44-45/48)

Materials: Colour no 56, Christmas red:
200-250-250-250 (300-300-350-350) g
Colour no. 01, off white:
150 g for all sizes

POINTED NEEDLES size 8 mm – or size needed to get 11 sts x 15 rows in stocking st before felting = 10 x 10 cm.

SLIPPER:
The slipper is worked in one piece from the top of leg and sewn tog mid upper foot and mid back afterwards.
Loosely cast on 9-10-10-11 (12-12-13-14) sts on needle size 8 mm with off white. K 6 rows (1st row = RS), then continue in stocking st, but first st (when seen from RS) is knitted on each row. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 9-10-10-11 (11-11-12-12) cm put all sts aside on a holder. Loosely cast on 10-10-11-12 (12-13-13-14) sts with off-white and work as last piece, work in stocking st as before, but now knit the last st (as seen from RS) on each row. When piece measures 9-10-10-11 (11-11-12-12) cm (finish a row on RS) Knit sts from holder onto needle = 19-20-21-23 (24-25-26-28) sts on needle. Make sure the garter st edges are next to each other in the middle of the row. When piece measures 11-12-12-14 (14-14-15-15) cm switch to Christmas red, continue in stocking st. AT THE SAME TIME on first row Christmas red, dec 2 sts evenly = 17-18-19-21 (22-23-24-26) sts. When piece measures 17-19-19-21 (21-21-23-23) cm cast on sts for foot at the end of each RS row: 2 sts 2-2-2-2 (3-4-6-7) times and 1 st 1-2-3-3 (3-3-2-2) times = 22-24-26-28 (31-34-38-42) sts. When piece measures 41-44-47-51 (54-57-59-61) cm decrease at beg of every WS row: 1 st 1-2-3-3 (3-3-2-2) times and 2 sts 2-2-2-2 (3-4-6-7) times = 17-18-19-21 (22-23-24-26) sts. Continue until piece measures 50-55-60-64 (68-70-77-80) cm. P 1 row from WS. AT THE SAME TIME inc 2 sts evenly = 19-20-21-23 (24-25-26-28) sts. Change to off white. Continue in stocking st until piece measures 53-58-63-68 (72-74-81-84) cm, now divide piece in two and each piece is completed separately. The last 9-10-10-11(12-12-13-14) sts on needle (seen from RS) are placed on a holder while the first part is completed. Continue in stocking st while the st toward the middle is knitted on each row. When piece measures 59-65-70-76 (80-82-90-93) cm, K 6 rows(first row = RS). Cast off loosely. Knit the other piece in same way and cast off loosely.

ASSEMBLY:
Fold slipper double WS towards WS and sew tog mid back in outer loops of sts, for a flat seam. Sew in the same way mid upper foot. Turn piece inside out – WS is now RS.

FELTING:
Put slippers in washing machine at 40 degrees with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach (normal spin and no pre-wash). Try the slippers on while still wet to shape them to the right size. At subsequent washes, wash slippers on a wool programme.

Fold approx 5 to 7 cm at the top of leg double towards RS.
