CIRCULAR NEEDLE (60 or 80 cm) SIZE 6 mm – or size needed to get 14 sts with textured pattern according to A.1 = width 10 cm. CROCHET HOOK SIZE 5 mm - for edge.
GARTER ST (back and forth on circular needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K.
PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS.
MEASURING TIP: Because of the texture on the garment all length measurements must be done when the piece is held up to get the correct length measurements. ----------------------------------------------------------
PONCHO: The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle because of no of sts. Worked sideways in one piece. Loosely cast on 132-136-140-148-152-160 sts on circular needle size 6 mm with Alpaca Bouclé. Work PATTERN according to diagram A.1 with 1 edge st in GARTER ST – see explanation above, in each side until piece measures approx. 60-61-62-62-63-64 cm – stop after a row from RS. Switch to 1 thread Alpaca Bouclé. On next row (= WS), cast off the first 66-68-70-74-76-80 sts at beg of row (= left front piece), K the rest of row. Insert 1 marker and work pattern according to diagram A.2 (choose diagram for your size) with 1 edge st in garter st in each side. When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, piece measures approx. 10-10-10-12-12-12 cm from marker and approx. 70-71-72-74-75-76 cm from cast on edge. K 1 row from RS with Alpaca Bouclé and loosely cast on 66-68-70-74-76-80 sts at the end of row (= right front piece) = 132-136-140-148-152-160 sts. Continue to work A.1 with 1 edge st in garter st in each side but beg from the opposite side in A.1 mid front so that the pattern is the same in each side towards mid front. When piece measures approx. 130-132-134-136-138-140 cm and the same no of stripes in pattern has been worked on each side of mid front, loosely cast off with K from WS with Alpaca Bouclé.
CROCHET BORDER: Work a finishing edge around the entire poncho on hook size 5 mm with Alpaca Bouclé as follows: Beg mid back or in a corner on the poncho and work 1 dc in first st, * 2 ch, skip approx. 1 cm, 1 dc in next st *, repeat from *-* around the entire poncho and finish with 2 ch and 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round.
