Knitted national bow and tie



Measurements Tie:
Width: approx. 4 cm
Length: approx. 120 cm

Materials:50 g colour no 19, red
50 g colour no 18, off white
50 g colour no 09, navy blue

POINTED NEEDLES AND CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 2.5 mm (80 cm) - or size needed to get 26 sts x 52 rows in garter st = 10 x 10 cm.

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows.

INCREASE TIP:
All inc are done from RS. Work 1 st, 1 YO, K the rest of the row. On next row K YO twisted (i.e. in back loop of st) to avoid holes.

KNITTING TIP:
When turning mid piece, slip first st. Tighten thread and continue as before. This is done to avoid holes when turning.

STRIPE COLOURS:
Work 6 rows in garter st with red, 2 rows in garter st with off white, 4 rows in garter st with navy blue, 2 rows in garter st with off white and 6 rows in garter st with red. NOTE! The ridges (2 rows in garter st = 1 ridge) made when turning mid piece are not counted.

DECREASE TIP:
Work every dec row as follows: K 1, slip 1 st, K 1 and psso, K the remaining sts.

TIE:
Worked back and forth on circular needle to make room for all the sts. Cast on 300 sts with red on circular needle size 2.5 mm.

ROW 1: K all sts (= WS).
ROW 2: Inc 1 st and K remaining sts - see INCREASE TIP (= 301 sts).
ROW 3: K all sts.
ROW 4: Inc 1 st, K 13 sts and turn (= 302 sts).
ROW 5: K all sts.
ROW 6: Work as 2nd row (= 303 sts).
ROW 7: K all sts.
ROW 8: Inc 1 st, K 20 sts and turn (= 304 sts).
ROW 9: K all sts.
ROW 10: Switch to off white and work as 2nd row (= 305 sts).
ROW 11: K all sts.
ROW 12: Switch to navy blue and work as 2nd row (= 306 sts).
ROW 13-15: K all sts.
ROW 16: Switch to off white and dec 1 st - see DECREASE TIP - K the remaining sts (= 305 sts).
ROW 17: K all sts.
ROW 18: Switch to red and dec 1 st. K the remaining sts (= 304 sts).
ROW 19: K all sts.
ROW 20: Dec 1 st, K 20 sts and turn (= 303 sts).
ROW 21: K all sts.
ROW 22: Dec 1 st. K the remaining sts (= 302 sts).
ROW 23: K all sts.
ROW 24: Dec 1 st, K 13 sts and turn (= 301 sts).
ROW 25: K all sts.
ROW 26: Work as 22nd row (= 300 sts).
ROW 27: K all sts.
Loosely cast off.

BOW:
Cast on 35 sts on pointed needles size 2.5 mm with navy blue. Work 2 rows in GARTER ST with navy blue - see explanation above - 2 rows in garter st with off white and 2 rows in garter st with red. Cast off.
