Knitted hat with stripes



Size: 3/5 - 6/9 - 10/12 years
Head circumference: 52/53 - 54/55 - 55/56 cm
Height: approx. 44-46-49 cm

Materials:
50 g colour no 64, grey purple
50 g colour no 40, light old pink

DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4.5 mm - or size needed to get 20 sts x 26 rows in stocking st = 10 x 10 cm.
DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4 mm – for rib

STRIPES:
Work * 6 rounds light old pink, 6 rounds grey purple *, repeat from *-*.

DECREASE TIP:
Dec 2 sts before marker as follows: Work until 3 sts remain before marker, slip 1 st as if to K, K 2 tog, psso, (marker) = 2 dec sts.

HAT:
Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 72-80-88 sts on double pointed needles size 4 mm with light old pink.
ROUND 1 to 2: K all sts.
ROUND 3 to 6: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-* the entire round.
Then switch to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and continue in stocking st and with STRIPES - read explanation above - until finished measurements.
When 12 stripes have been worked vertically, insert 4 markers 18-20-22 sts apart. Then dec on 1st round in next stripe as follows: Dec 2 sts before every marker - READ DECREASE TIP = 8 sts dec on round. Repeat dec on 1st round of every stripe (= dec every 6th round) until 8 sts remain on round (= 20-21-22 stripes in total), cut the thread. Pull thread through all sts and tighten tog.
Make 1 pompom of approx. 5 cm in diameter with 1 thread in each colour and 1 pompom with light old pink, fasten them at the top of hat.
