Felted hat



Size: 3/5 - 6/9 - 10/12 years
Head circumference: 48/50 - 51/53 - 54/56 cm

Materials:200-200-250 g colour no 15, midnight blue

DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES and CIRCULAR NEEDLE (40 cm) SIZE 5.5 mm - or size needed to get 16 sts x 20 rows in stocking st = 10 x 10 cm.
After felting: approx. 21 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

HAT:
Worked in the round on circular needle and then on double pointed needles when decreasing sts.
Loosely cast on 99-108-117 sts on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 2 threads Alaska. Remove one thread and work in stocking st until finished measurements. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When hat measures 27-30-33 cm, insert 9 markers in the piece, 11-12-13 sts apart. On next round, dec 1 st on the right side of all markers by K 2 tog. Repeat dec every 6th round a total of 9-10-11 times = 18 sts remain. Work 5 rounds in stocking st, then work all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. The hat measures approx. 54-60-66 cm in total.

FELTING:
Place the hat in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. After felting the hat measures approx. 34-38-41 cm vertically. Fold the bottom 4-5 cm double up towards RS and shape the hat while still wet. At subsequent wash, wash the hat at regular wool programme.
